Me and my roommate sit down and have a chat.

Okay so there are a few things that some people believe that REALLY get under my skin, and I’m going to set the record straight (lol?):

A bisexual woman does not become straight when she’s dating a man. Likewise, she’s not a lesbian if she dates a woman. The same goes for bisexual men. A bisexual person still finds both sexes attractive, regardless of what kind of a relationship they happen to be in at the time.

Bisexuals are completely capable of being in a monogamous relationship. You do not have to share your bisexual girlfriend or boyfriend with anyone.

“Bisexual” does not equal promiscuity. Just because someone identifies as bisexual, does not mean they are obligated to sleep with you. Bisexuals don’t necessarily have a higher sex-drive than the average person.

Bisexuals are not greedy. Bisexuals are not indecisive. Bisexuals are not confused. Some people may exhibit these characteristics, but those people are Questioning. They have not yet identified as being bisexual.

I feel like when discussing LGBT issues, many people are unsure how to address the “B”. In our society, there’s an overall discomfortable with the fluidity of sexuality. We try to fit relationships and sexuality into perfect little boxes. Bisexuals don’t fit into this predetermined equation, making some people feel threatened and confused. Lesbians and gay men have received a similar reaction, but the perceived ambiguity of the bisexual “lifestyle” only further aggravates the hysteria.

I hope I did well in clarifying some of the grayer areas that a lot of people are too intimidated to approach. Pass it on.
